i know the dialogue is amazing and stuff, but one of the most underlooked parts of this scene is how he lowers his tone and speaks more quietly when he asks grimly "do you understand me?" might be the most chilling part of the entire scene.

Billy is a humble man. I met him once. This is why this scene is very genuine. He's not acting. The officer is Tom Hank's son.

The officer was sure of his training until Billy's character mentioned his daughter. It's that right there that caused the hesitation, which turned into doubt about going down this road. He weighed it in his mind..."it's not worth it, I have a daughter at home."

Almost reminds me of the Town when the bank robbers got out of the van with ski masks. The old school officer looked them right in the eyes and as they stared at each other the Officer looked down and continue to read his paper as they walked off.
